Guides & Advice

PSA, Beckett or CGC: which grading company?

Compare grading scales, holders, accepted cards and submission terms.

01Why compare companies?

PSA, Beckett Grading Services (BGS) and CGC are established certification providers. Their detailed standards, holders and services are not necessarily the same.

A grade from one company is not automatically equivalent to a grade from another.

02PSA: familiar numerical grading

PSA uses a numerical grading scale where 10 is the highest grade. Its slab format and verification system are familiar to many collectors.

Check PSA’s official resources for eligible card categories and current submission requirements.

03Beckett/BGS: understanding the grade

Beckett Grading Services is also known for a ten-point grading scale and, with some services, subgrades describing aspects of card condition.

Review the specific service being purchased, as available options and label formats may change.

04CGC: check the appropriate service

CGC offers collectible-card grading services. As with other companies, acceptance criteria, service tiers and grading standards should be checked in their latest official form.

Choose the provider whose service best matches your specific card and your goals.

05How to choose for your collection

Compare completed sales for your specific card graded by each company, as well as total fees, quoted turnaround times and shipping protection.

CartesGradées independent pre-grading can help highlight flaws before submission. It does not guarantee a PSA, BGS or CGC grade or imply an official partnership.
